Hi all
I am about to help a friend out getting his Honda running again, been sitting outside with bike cover for four years never run, good thing is i am in central California and no humidity. I have worked on lots of motorcycles but not the Valkyrie .. first thing would be removing the gas tank and clean out... then remove spark plugs add some Marval mystery oil... then add through fuel line seafoam until float bowls are full. Crank engine over and let it sit two days..... drain bowls ........... am i wasting my time, should i just pull the carbs and clean out the jets, any tips would be great..
thanks

even if you were to get it to fire, you would want to remove, clean and rebuild, rejet the carbs. after sitting 4 years, the bike and motor should have a thorough shake down and cleaning of all parts and connections. Doing a job right takes some time and can be good wrench therapy. Doing a job fast for expediency sake is not worth doing it at all. short cuts always come back to bite you in the end. poncho
The gas tank has the fuel petcock on off switch in the way under frame, how do i remove the gas tank, its stopping me lifting tank
i got the tank off ..found the screw in the fuel valve

Gas tank is not rusted, owner put a mixture of oil and gas in tank... drained off its bad for sure... seafoam in carbs cranked engine sucking it into cylinders, overnight soak... update on the storage its three years not four.... but that don't change anything...

The reason i am doing this is because the Honda owner loaned me his car for several weeks...

so is that like driving a rental with the insurance? like that guy with all the bandages does in the commercial? fun fun fun. here is your car back
If it helps, there is another forum that has a ton of members riding the older Valkyries like the one you are working on. Outside of the general advice here, they may have more year-2000 specific advice/experience. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/
