Has anyone done this? Both are 14x1.5 mm 12 mm long with 17 mm hex head. I like the oem magnetic plug as the magnet is recessed instead of sticking out. Why didn't the manufacturer use a magnet engine oil drain plug? Did the engineers want the debris to go to the oil filter and get trapped? Remember the drive shaft lube does not have a filter and thus a magnet plug is needed. Would using the magnetic plug in the oil pan be beneficial or detrimental?

I bought a 2 pk. Magnets from Harbor Freight for ~ $2.00. I place them directly on my oil filter. They have a strong pull so they won't be tossed off. I previously purchased a magnetic oil drain plug for a Goldwing. Prior to installing I tested it's pulling power. It could barely hold on to steel shavings. What a joke! I have a **** of a time releasing these magnets when I change my filter. :) You could even use strong magnetic tape!;)I suggest testing the pulling power before attaching any magnet. >:D
