Just purchased a used 2014 GL1800C with a number of electrical add-ons (cruise, gps, usb power, heated grips) and am disassembling for inspection/wiring cleanup. I have Maintenance and Owners manuals on order.

In order to remove the battery, does the lower plastic panel (below the battery) need to be removed? It didn't seem to fit through the opening.

You should not need to remove anything but the side panel. You'll have to wiggle it a bit and kind of tilt it at a slight angle. It's a tight fit, but yeah it will get through there.

The manual says you ave to remove the rear fender, I believe, don't do it. Turboyoshi is right, just the side panel.

I was successful at removing it without damaging anything and without removing the rear fender. Thanks again!

I had to remove the side cover/panel, rear foot peg, and the black lower plastic panel just below the battery (no way in heck w/o doing it) No Biggie !!! 2_2_23

I've found that if you can leave the bolts (or just one) in the battery connectors, they can really help to give something to hold onto while trying to manipulate it in or out.
