After riding the old Kawasaki Concours for many years and then cruiser bikes I didn't think I'd have any trouble adjusting to the Valkyrie ergonomics but I am. Knees and hips start bothering me after an hour or so. Thinking about putting peg lowerers on. I know I will lose some ground clearance. Any of you guys have them and if so what kind and your impressions of them. Thanks for any input.

I had a similar experience. Hip pain became pronounced, knees not as bad. Got the Rivco extended pegs. They help a lot, look good, especially when stowed, and don't really sacrifice clearance (for my riding; if I'm "canyon-carving" I don't have the pegs out anyway. (Like I'm canyon-carving in Illinois. Right!)

It has the additional advantage of allowing (most) riders to ride more comfortably, for longer. Guesses?

I'm guessing that there is an arrogant implication that everyone who has knee or hip pain when riding any motorcycle is overweight or out of shape?:rolleyes:

Not everyone - of course not - but from personal experience, shedding weight improves EVERYTHING. Well worth the effort. I encourage anyone who, like me was/is too heavy, to shed the pounds. Your whole life will change in ways you can't imagine and, not least, your riding experience! The bike will take on a whole new thrill factor for you. Do it!

Fully agree with the benefits of avoiding obesity. Unfortunately, eating healthy can take more effort and be more expensive than eating junk ....And you might need a new wardrobe at the end of the journey. So your miraculous "mod" is not exactly costing peanuts as you put it. :)

Yes, eating healthy takes some effort. But only for a while. Once it becomes second nature it's no effort at all.

More expensive than eating junk? Not really if you're only eating small portions.

New wardrobe? Yeah, I guess so. Still peanuts in the scheme of life. How much was a Valkyrie?

Bottom line (haha) is that you can always find a reason not to do it. The trick is not to listen to that voice. He's a conman. Losing weight is the single best thing most of us can do for ourselves. Certainly if we want to get the maximum enjoyment out of our bike! The real problem is that over-weight has been normalised. Go back and look at pictures of people in the 1950's / 60's.... a real eye opener.

If you are finished with this attempt at behavior modification for weight loss, let me bring you the soapbox for similar attempts regarding tobacco use, street drugs, alcohol, unprotected sex, non-ATGATT riding attire, etc., etc. which may tangentially affect the joys of riding. lol.
PS. Being overweight has not been "normalized" by anyone in the health-care community. It has just become non-PC to denigrate obesity.

Yes. Very effective proselytizing for the Church of Skinny Saints & Sinners. Convinced me to lose weight beyond what I needed to. Now having trouble staying on the bike at high speeds or in strong winds...:D

san'man, famous Canuker Red Green would say use duck tape (Canadian version). you can have someone tape your hands to the bars and feet to the pegs. in the wind you would look like a sail, but never let go. only downside is you have to keep rolling as you cant put your foot down to stop.

I have peg extenders on my Valk. Moves feet out/down/forward, but I do drag the pegs very easily with them installed. They do increase my riding position comfort---and yea--- I am 240 lbs at 6'1". So what.

I have read they are discontinued.

I think I am going to look into having the seat re-done and possibly raising and moving back about an inch. I've heard some good things about a guy in the St Louis area, Rich Philips Customs. Some of his work looks very similar to Russell Day Long. A buddy of mine had his BMW done and really likes it.

I had Corbin build a custom Gunfighter seat that moved me up and wayyy back. Really good for the legs, but now puts me in a "clam shell" position reaching for the bars. So that idea is a trade off. Just an FYI....

Looks good thanks for posting . I installed ROX 2" risers so moving seat back and up an inch is no problem for me.

I heard that. In the process of installing my risers now. It does make a big difference. I am checking with Sargents Seats about re-working the Corbin to take out some of the modification. I also have a stock Corbin tour seat which works fine. Mean City Cycles also does seat mods if you run into problems getting it done.
