Is it ok to leave from a stop in second gear??

I took my new Valkerie for my first ride today. (Finally no snow)... I am 65 and have had 7 recent hip replacements/revisions plus 3 months ago I had a triple lumbar disc fusion. To tell the truth, I found the power and torque a little intimidating In first gear when I was starting and going directly into a turn (left or right). No problems when taking off and going in a straight line. I realized I am still a little week in my arms and core muscle groups... I did find it much easier to leave from a stop in 2nd gear whem going directly into a turn. My question is is it ok to start out in 2nd gear?

Thanks everyone...Sammy...

Absolutely fine.

The Valk’s tranny is as close to an automatic as you will find without it actually being one. I’ve had the bike below 15 mph in 5th and accelerated without a hiccup. On my old Honda VTX1800, 30 to 35 was the slowest I could go in 5th and the engine would still lug as I accelerated. The Valk’s a different beast completely.

Best of luck in regaining your health and strength.

You are fine... as many here, I never use the 1st gear.
