Same here in central Illinois. And not just the hated salt, but they can only buy so much salt with their budgets around here so they also use tons (literally) of sand, especially at intersections. Makes turns no fun at all, even at lower speeds. I usually wait until spring rains clear it all away more.
Yup. The sh!t's corrosive! You do not want to get that fine dust in your precious equipment.
Here in New England, some riders have a second bike that we call a "salter," to abuse and ride during the winter months before Spring breaks and a good rain washes that salt dust off the roadways.
I know one guy who actually has studded snow tires on his salter!
He's one of the rider safety course instructors.
