$8000 with 1900 miles

Is this a good deal? Wrecked/totaled my vtx1800F last week. I'm ok other than a little sore. I can't play around and not have something to ride so I'm seriously looking at a purchase.

This will be every penny from insurance. My number one need will ultimately be a good shield especially since I live in central Ms. VTX had a very nice fairing. So, I need all suggestions.

It's the red one...

thnx

Taller is better and I need one that is extremely sturdy. My fairings on the 1800 drove me krazy! I often ran 80-90 and often had to adjust until I reverted to super glue. :D
Also? Will this machine handle a 200 on the rear wheel?
I think that $8000 is a pretty good price, but others on here have said that they have seen them new for the same price. Sure as heck nowhere near I live in Canada can I get one for that price.

As for getting a 200 tire on the back, it will fit, but I don't see any benefit to one.

For a windshield, many guys here have tried several different kinds. I made my own out of a 33" full wing windshield that I cut to my liking and then used Memphis shades hardware to mount it. Others use the Honda windshield made for the bike, but it is pricey.
Last 2 changes on the vtx had the 200. I actually preferred the way it handled and also got more mileage out of it. Although the valk is a 17, the vtx was an 18 so a 200 may not be as effective for the valk.
You got 8K for a totaled VTX! Good job and a great insurance company!

I paid the same for a 14 Valk with 5200 miles on her 9 months ago. Like new.

I also came from an 1800R that I put over 70K on and was the best bike I’ve ever owned, and I’ve been riding for almost 40 years. Compared to the X, I found the Valk lacking in everything except reliability, power, smoothness, acceleration, braking, electronics, handling, value for the money and excitement factor. The looks took a bit getting used to but I managed. The sound of the engine is totally different, more like an F1 that a John Deere tractor. I had a 205 car tire on my X and thought about going with one on the Valk but the way it handles may be compromised with one so I’m holding off, for now. I think a wider tire should fit and shouldn’t affect handling. A CT would of course.

I did add bags, a Honda Tall windshield, highway pegs, cruise and a driver's backrest, plus a few other comfort items. The original owner had the seat redone with memory foam and even though much better than stock, I still use an Airhawk for road trips. No regrets trading in the X for this ride at all other than the dearth of aftermarket parts sucks.

Best of luck and safe riding.

Ha! I'm thinking I've seen your handle on the vtx forum. While I am excited about the possibility of owning one, I am already missing the ride and sound of the pipes. VTX was far from perfect but it was paid for and had an incredible motor... never let me down!

All the extra toys are going to have to wait. However, the idea of bird sized bugs and rocks hitting me will speed up process for getting a shield.
That's a lot of bike for 8 grand. Snag it and run.

We are lined up to meet and test ride this Sunday. Weather is supposed to be a 10. :) Hi 75F and sunny.
Good luck and keep us posted. This is a great motorcycle for sure. But as mentioned, the aftermarket selection of stuff is pretty weak. That being said, I don't regret it one bit. I have a Corbin seat, Honda tall windshield, floorboards with heel/toe shifter and Corbin bags coming tomorrow hopefully.. (weather permitting) the only other thing I really need are some highway pegs to stretch my legs a bit. One of the nice things with limited aftermarket stuff is that once you have it, you're done spending. Good luck.
The 1500 Valkyrie is a great looking, fast bike but they have 6 carburetors that can be a problem, you can buy them cheap right now, unfortunately they don't hold their value.
The 1800 is a better bike.
That’s a 1500 Valk... pretty much a different beast entirely
That's a pic of an older 1500 modded like crazy... really nice! Same color as 2014 I'm looking at.
If you want a cool 1500 there is one for sale down the street from me. It is pretty custom. I really liked it when I looked at it. But I really wanted the newer model. The new bike is so much more advanced in pretty much every aspect.

You will love everything about it....except maybe the seat. The stock seat isn't for everyone. I had it on for the test ride only. Ordered a new seat before the bike even arrived at the house. Haven't ridden with the OEM seat other than that. Thinking about sending it out for custom redo...russell or laam maybe. Always wanted a russell, but really expensive.

Good luck with it.
I hated the seat at 1st but it broke in nicely and i like it now , no complaints at all
I can go over 100 miles with the stock seat anymore I put the Airhawk cushion on.
My butt on THAT seat is better than IT in a chair at work. :D
