10w30 Oil?

Alway need an oil thread.:) 10w30 is different for me, after owning 5 valkyries and 3 goldwings (one 1500 and two 1800s) that required 10w40 or 20w50. My preference was Rotella T6 5w40 full synthetic or Mobile 1 10w40. It also looks like the first oil change is at 4000 miles, it used to be requred at 500 or 1000 miles.

My thoughts are to change to a Mobile 1 10w30 (non-energy conserving), if I can find it, at 1000 miles.

Thanks for your opinions.

what's the reason you're interested in the switch?
go for it

not a huge change so you shouldnt have any problems
The owners manual on the 1500 valks and the 1800 wings recommended 10w40 where as the new wings and the 1800 valk states it needs 10w30. This is the same engine, so they must have found an issue with the heaver oil.
Already changed the oil on mine to Shell Rotella T6. I'm also using an engine oil additive called ZDDPlus. It increases the levels of zinc and phosphorous in the oil and greatly improves the feel of the transmission. I was honestly amazed at the difference. There is a rather large forum thread on the main Goldwing forum that discusses the additive and its benefits for a new GL1800 transmission.
Never really thought about which oil to use. I would just use whatever the owner's manual says to use. I can't see there being a problem with following the owner's manual.

There are differences in oil, mainly price.

AFAIK, the engine in the Valkyrie (Gold Wing) hasn't changed much since 2001.

(There have been little changes to fix known problems. For example, the 5th gear issue, the overheating/ECM issue, etc.)

My Dealer put put 10W-40 in mine for the 4K service. FWIW
Oil the great equalizer. why not discuss money, religion or poly'tics (many bloodsucking parasites along for a free ride)? it is best to use what makes you feel good. other than that , life is a beach.. or is it a crapshoot? I get those two mixed up. poncho
only Mobile 1 10w40 here in Florida , did not freeze at all this year where i live
