New owner with a question.....

Hi Guys!,

I just picked up a 2015 that was bought new in 18. 1300 miles on the clock. I have put about 300 miles on it since picking it up yesterday. My main question right now is has anyone found anything that will quiet the engine "whir" at all? I know it's normal and I am sure I will get use to it but its the ONLY thing that bugs me about the bike right now. It seems awfully loud at part throttle and lower speeds.

Thanks!

-Eli

In another thread I started a few days ago,I inquired what the cause of that is. I own a CTX 1300 and it too has that whir of a sewing machine. I was told on that forum that it is due to straight cut gears, which people claimed was unique to the bike, with most bikes having helical gears. I inquired in my thread about this but so far no one has come up with a definitive response. I even contacted Honda support, and they told me I'd have to get a service manual or ask the dealer. One member here, and in that thread, says MOST bikes have straight cut gears, which is not what I was told on the CTX forum. So, I am just as baffled as you.

So, good luck getting an answer to this. One member on my thread said it's due (he's been told) to the oil pump gears, but I don't know what that means, specifically.

The sound I am referring to has nothing to do with the transmission. It is engine RPM related and does it sitting still. I believe it is a combination of the alternator and the timing gears.

Yes. Mine does that as well on the CTX. Doesn't matter how fast the engine is running.
