With all the nooks and crannies and this being love bug season... every time I stop I’m wiping it down. Like buying a new a new car and scared you’ll get a scratch.
This is the newest bike I’ve I have owned. I don’t care who sees the freaking bike!!! I SEE it!
I have never been like this and almost makes me want to sell the silly thing. 😄
whoa, there.. take a breather.. chill baby chill. maybe go for a long walk. I said walk, not ride. this is just a machine. it is not your life. it , like all things will come and go. like the seasons only now they call it climate? it too will change. So enjoy it while its here. Just like a child, you cant protect it from everything. sure you try. but then you realize its not helping. eventually it is going to get that first scratch and then a ding. If you bond with your machine, all those scratches and dings are scars and they have a story to tell.. those stories get woven into the fabric of your life story. So this machine just like your horse is here for you now. Later it will be gone and you will have memories. make them good ones... or just make them up? poncho
ps. 1k miles a week for 12 consistant weeks is not all that much riding. have done that for over 50yrs now. If you haven't done any long distance riding yet, aka touring the back country and living off your metal horse, it is an adventure worth pursuing. it will give you a different perspective on your relationship with your machine.
DP, try putting Lemon Pledge furniture oil on your bike. wipe it over all the surfaces after a good cleaning. It will make the surface slippery to all those airborne missiles and anti aircraft flak.. most will just blow and go. the few direct hits will just puddle up and wipe off. There are sure to be other home spun remedies for excess buggage..
just another story in the annals of ponchos travels.
Since the dawn of time, there has been mass migration from their breeding trees high atop mountain in southern Mexico to all parts of the rockies even to the tundra in canukistan, previously known as Canada every spring and fall. These hordes fly by the billions across the Sonoran desert and all thru the Midwest as they make there trek to all the flowers seasonal burst of life in north America. However these winged creatures insist on flying at about 48" above the deck, which happens to be exactly the altitude that my brother and I fly our bikes across the desert. Yes I am referring to the seasonal migration of the monarch butterflies.
One particular trip on our way back to the land of enchantment, aka texas, we did come upon and passed thru a gauntlet a field of fire of these poof balls. Traveling at hiway speed, it appears as though they are being fired at you by nazi machine guns in bunkers on the side of the highway. You do your best to dodge and weave as you can plainly see them as if they were tracer rounds. Upon impact on your windscreen they explode with dramatic effect in a burst of yellow dust. they have much the same effect on your flying fortress and your bomber jacket. A direct hit to the head or sunglasses will leave you in a daze of yellow dust. With a mission to complete you do your best to avoid as many as possible but there is no escape from some collateral damage. eventually we cleared the field of battle and limped our way home where we could assess the battle damage and restore our sleds to fly and fight again for Truth , Justice and the American way.. ponch out
DP, I feel your pain. My suggestion is switch your focus to the insides of your machine. When I take my car to be serviced the garage gives me their loaner car. It's an old Saab. The paint's faded, the interior is worn, but mechanically it's beautiful. Despite it's ultra-high mileage it has that buttery-smooth operation of something that's had its oil changed often and everything mechanical attended to in a timely fashion. After driving a while you overlook its scars because you can tell it's been loved. It's "worn-ness" even becomes a kind of badge of honour, testament to its years of faithful service to it's owner.
I keep lemon pledge in my man bag on the bike and use it on the nasty love bugs. I let it sit a while when I stop and then wipe them off.
Also, I'm a big fan of monarch butterflies but not on my shield. I don't mind skeeters on it however... I hate em!
Geepers,
My motor will outlive me I'm sure but possibly not in my ownership. The outer beauty must be maintained so all the BIG talkers that approach me can continue to scratch their heads/butts trying to figure it out. I have some scratches and a stinking small dent none of which I did but came via previous owner. GRRR!

Yeah but now you're back to where you started: obsessing. I thought you were trying to quit that? You can't have it both ways. Either accept blemishes on the appearance of your bike and no longer experience obsession or have a perfect bike and experience obsession. I think your problem is that you're too concerned about what others think of your bike.
NuFinish Scratch Dr - works great, quick and easy! I also have a 2006 Tacoma with 160,000 miles and people can't believe it's that's old and experienced.
B'man. a buck sixty on your taco? what is that a couple dozen oil changes? ok, and a couple pairs of new shoes.. I drove 300k on my z71 chebby, took me 11 years, but I was busy racking up another quarter mil on the scooters. but that chebby motor was tite as a drum when I let her go, 5.4L 20mpg 4x4.
I just figured I’ll have around 35000 miles 5-23-2020. Wow!
It has 10789 on it now. I brought to ride it.
